Q: | When using the fuel solutions, can I choose a different location if I see a better price? |
A: | No because the price you see on the pump where we tell you to fuel is not the negotiated price we pay. If the fuel solution does not work for you, call your Driver Manager or the Fuel Manager. |
|
Q: | When do I leave the truck running in cold weather? |
A: | Always leave the truck running below 10 degrees when possible or plug the truck in when you can't leave it running. |
|
Q: | When are my benefits effective? |
A: | They are effective the 1st of the month following 90 days of full-time employment. |
|
Q: | Can I participate in 401(k) program immediately? |
A: | No, you are eligible the 1st of the month following (6) months of full time employment. |
|
Q: | When is payroll cut off? |
A: | Cut off really has 2 parts. Cut off to be off of your loads is Midnight Friday night. This, so far, has never changed due to a holiday. The 2nd part of CUT OFF is the scanning deadline to scan in your paperwork. The standard time for scanning deadline is Mondays at 4:00PM CST. If there is a holiday in the week, the scanning deadline may change. If the holiday falls on a Monday, the scan deadline will move to the preceding Saturday midnight. Holidays that fall other than on a Monday will usually be handled with a notice being sent via Qualcomm to when it is being changed. |

Q: | How do I increase my miles? |
A: | Maintain good communication, accurate PTA's, keep your hours up to date, and arrive at your delivery as early as possible. By getting there ahead of schedule, you may get empty early and onto another load. If possible take your break before you unload so you can run any load that is available. Stay out as long as possible and have an open mind as to where you run. Trust your Driver Manager to do what is best for you and West Side. Be flexible, as there will be good weeks and bad. An OTR driver will have better options for loads than Regional Drivers and get more miles in most cases. |
|
Q: | How are loads planned? |
A: | A lot of decisions have to be made and options looked at in planning loads. Pick up times are one of the 1st things looked at along with the DH of the closest truck. Also, the driver's hours, home time, regional or OTR, relays needed and delivery appointments are factored in planning. It can also depend on how many trucks are in the area and how many loads are booked. If there are only a few trucks, there may not be many options. If there are a lot of trucks, we may wait to see if we book any live loads that we can gain throughout the day. We will then save the loads sitting on preloaded trailers for the later trucks. |
